Jesus commands us to love our neighbors and at Westminster we seek to do that by supporting a variety of mission initiatives. Westminster supports these ministries:
Being a downtown church, we see many people in need walk through our doors each week. The majority of our funds for the needy are used to assist people in need to acquire birth certificates and state identification cards needed to access state and federal services and to enroll children in school. A special offering to support this ministry is received on the fourth Sunday of Advent. This volunteer-run program is on Wednesday mornings from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Clients seeking assistance should bring some form of documentation with their name on it. Examples include, but are not limited to: medical forms, utility bills, prison release papers, school records, bank statements, student ID etc.
Volunteer and Share Your Gifts
W.I.S.E. is a ministry dedicated to Dayton School Communities and will focus on investing in the success of local students. With a wide variety of opportunities to impact the lives of young people, volunteers of all talents and experience levels are welcome.
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance enables congregations and mission partners of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A) to witness to the healing love of Christ through caring for communities adversely affected by crisis and catastrophic event.
Since 1998 Westminster has participated in the Presbytery of the Miami Valley's partnership with the Presbytery of the North Coast in Barranquilla, Colombia.Through our relationship with our brothers and sisters in Colombia we have learned about the Colombian reality and the work of the Presbyterian Church of Colombia. Many youth and young adults have participated in the partnership over the years and have traveled to the Presbytery of the North Coast and to visit our Sister Church, Primera Iglesia (First Church).
Catch the building Spirit
Since 1993 many houses have been constructed in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton. Each year over 20 Catholic parishes and 10 Presbyterian churches work together in the Dayton area to finance and build one new house. This allows a family’s dream of owning a home to become a reality.
Westminster supports The Foodbank through our monthly hunger offerings of non-perishable food items and monetary gifts on the first Sunday of the month and the proceeds from the "From the Garden" table (located in Fellowship Hall following worship during the growing season).
