Do not worry about anything,
but in everything by prayer and
supplication with thanksgiving
let
your requests be made known to God. Philippians 4:6 |
Need a prayer? In a hurry?
Here’s a short, quick ancient/future one that prays itself. Used by folks in the Bible, dates back to the sixth century monastery of St. Catherine, and has already been prayed today all over the world:
“The Jesus Prayer” or “The Prayer of the Heart.” Lord Jesus Christ, have Mercy on Me.
Here’s a way to pray it that you could try:
Sit down alone and in silence. Lower your head, shut your eyes, breathe out gently and imagine yourself looking into your own heart. Carry your mind, that is, your thoughts, from your head to your heart. As you breathe out, say, “Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me.” Try to put all other thoughts aside. Be calm, be patience, and repeat the phrase very frequently.
Breath Prayers to try one of these on the fly or whenever you need to reconnect with God:
As you inhale, think of the first half of the sentence, as you exhale, the second half.
| O God, you are my hope. |
O God, you are my hope. |
| Thank you God, for accepting me. |
God of love, comfort those in need. |

May God bless you with discomfort at easy answers, half truths, and superficial relationships,
So that you will live deeply and from the heart;
May God bless you with anger at injustice, oppression, and the exploitation of people,
so that you will work for justice and peace;
May God bless you with tears to shed for those who are in pain,
So that you will reach out your hand and turn their sorrow into joy;
And May God bless you with enough foolishness to believe that you can make a difference in this old world,
so that you will do what others say cannot be done. |
