Mission, Values and Vision Statements

Mission

"Westminster Presbyterian Church:

Where Loving God and Neighbor Is Transforming Lives."

Values Statement

Transformation: Our faith, hope and love of God make a difference in our lives. We are committed to Christian discipleship which is enhanced by education, significant relational groups, pastoral care and our other values (see below).

Faithfulness: We are committed to a deep and abiding faithfulness to God, the Bible and our Confessions.

Worship: We are committed to expressing our love of God through inspirational worship in the Reformed tradition – worship that challenges the mind, touches the heart and lifts the spirit.

Spirituality: We are committed to increasing our love of God by living a life of prayer, practicing stewardship, offering hospitality, keeping the Sabbath, honoring discernment, and providing opportunities for all persons to exercise their God-given spiritual gifts.

Mission: We are committed to sharing our love of God by focusing on education as an integral part of our mission beyond the church.

Evangelism: We are committed to sharing our love for God with those who don’t have a church home and inviting them to be a part of our fellowship.

Every Person: We are committed to loving our neighbor and to welcoming all people into our fellowship just as they are without regard to race, age, social status, culture or lifestyle.

Context for Ministry: We are committed to our geographic location in downtown Dayton and to passing our house of worship on to future generations in better condition than we received it.

Vision Statement

By 2012, Westminster will be a stable and growing church.  Westminster will dramatically increase its effectiveness over the next seven years by enhancing the strengths it already possesses, by adding two new strengths -  spirituality and evangelism - and by renovating a facility for the next century.  We see a Westminster in which all members are transformed by God’s great love and want to share that love in word and deed with their neighbors.  This vision for our church includes the following:

Enhancing:  Westminster will enhance its current strengths of worship, mission, education, pastoral care and significant relational groups between now and 2012.

Adding:  Westminster will add two new strengths:

Spirituality – We will become a church that exudes a vibrant and contagious spirituality – one that offers a variety of opportunities for nurturing individual and corporate spiritual growth and that encourages and supports the expression of each person’s unique spiritual gifts.

Evangelism – We will become a church where our members will become more comfortable in sharing their faith; a church where we will invite our friends, neighbors and colleagues to join in our fellowship; a church so evangelical that its worship, its quality of caring, its eagerness to share the transforming love of God cannot be contained.

Renovating:  By 2012 Westminster will have successfully planned, paid for and completed a major renovation of our present building.  Eighty-five years after it was built, we will be ready to pass on to succeeding generations a facility that is even more beautiful and functional than the one we received.
