Your HELP is WANTED to make our
world a better place.
There is a place for you in the mission and outreach of Westminster.
In
the Dayton Area
Do
you like children? Come and be a tutor to the students at Van Cleve
Elementary School! Wednesdays and Thursdays we tutor students in
Fellowship Hall. Our partnership with Van Cleve has grown to include
many other programs like Teacher Grants, Student of the Month
Lunches and more. The success of this partnership led to the
launching of School Church Partners, an effort to pair up
schools and churches for mutual benefit and growth. Over 70
pairings have been created. Visit www.schoolchurchpartners.org
for more information.

Through
our giving to Miami Presbytery, we support several outreach programs
in churches across the greater Dayton area and throughout the Miami
Valley.
The
Mission Committee assists selected local helping agencies and
programs. In 2006 they were: Dayton, Ohio Habitat for Humanity;
School Church Partners; the Urban Ministry Center and The Emergency
Food Bank. Westminster gives financial support, volunteer hours and
holds collection drives for items needed by these organizations.
In
Ohio
Buckhorn
of Ohio, a home for troubled children near Columbus has received help from
Westminster right from its inception. We have sent work crews to help
establish their campus, and we continue to offer financial help. In 2000 a
group of adults did several work projects there.
Through
our giving to the Synod of the Covenant we are supporting many worthy programs
throughout Ohio.
On the National Level:
Mission
Trips: In 1997 nine adults flew to Grand Forks, North Dakota, to
do flood relief work, cleaning out homes and churches. In 1998 a
group went to build a home among the poor of Kentucky. In 1999 two
large groups visited the John Hyson School in Chimayo, New Mexico, and did work on the
campus. In 2000 we visited the Buckhorn of Ohio campus and did a
variety of work. In 2001 a dozen folk spent a work week at John
Hyson School. In 2002 a large group worked at Kirkmont Camp.
In 2003 we did work in Wheeling, West Virginia. in 2004 we
went to Lexington, Kentucky. 2005 found us in Toronto and also
in Mississippi for hurricane cleanup. In 2006 there were four
trips to help the Katrina cleanup which included over 50
participants.
We
also support hundreds of missions around the nation through our
giving to the General Assembly.
On the International Level:
Westminster
is paired with a sister church in Colombia, South America: Primera
Iglesia Presbyteriana in Barranquilla. We continue to learn
more about each other. Two of our pastors and a dozen young people have
been to Colombia to visit our sister church. Primera’s pastor has
preached here. Members of our partner presbytery visited us in
recent years.
"Mission
Arts and Crafts" are sold at Westminster. These are craft items
created by needy artisans from around the world. Our sale gives them
a livelihood, often the only income for a family or village.
Through
special offerings and our denominational giving we are making an
impact in hundreds of nations around the globe, including
missionaries in almost every country.
